It takes almost a full day to reach Gaurikund if there is no landslide-like situation. Traveling by bus leads to bliss because during the journey you will get to see rivers, lush green mountains, which give a feeling of satiety to the mind.
By Train: The nearest railway stations to Kedarnath are Rishikesh (215 km), Haridwar (241 km), Dehradun (257 km), and Kotdwar (246 km). Rishikesh is not connected by fast trains and the number of trains in Kotdwar is very less.
Thus if you are going to Kedarnath by train, Haridwar serves as the best railway station. Haridwar is connected to all parts of India by several trains.
By Air: The nearest airport from Kedarnath is Jolly Grant Airport near Dehradun, which is about 239 km from Kedarnath. This airport is close to Rishikesh (about 16 km) and takes about 20-30 minutes to reach Rishikesh. From there you have to book a taxi or take a bus to reach Joshimath.
Kingfisher Airlines connects Dehradun Airport with New Delhi through its Kingfisher Red service. From New Delhi Airport, there is a flight to Dehradun at 11:35 and 03:20, which reaches Dehradun at 12:30 pm and 04:20 pm respectively.

If you are planning to travel with your vehicle, then make sure that there is "Ground Clearance" because there are rocks in the roadway during the entire journey which can cause damage to the vehicle.
There are two parking lots just before Gaurikund (100 meters and 500 meters before Gaurikund). It is difficult to find space for private vehicles, but arrangements can be made after making polite requests to the caretakers.
Gate System: Before Kedarnath
Just 5 km down from Gaurikund to Gaurikund in Sonprayag there is a gate (gate) to carry vehicles in one direction only.
It is used to deal with traffic jams during the journey but it takes an additional 1–1.5 hours of travel time. Travelers are advised to park their vehicles at Sonprayag and travel by public transit to Gaurikund.
