New Delhi, Aug 16 (PTI) Google on Monday paid tribute to freedom fighter and poetess Subhadra Kumari Chauhan on her homepage with a doodle on her 117th birthday. In this doodle created by New Zealand-based artist Prabha Mallya, Subhadra Kumar Chauhan is shown wearing a sari and carrying paper and a pen.
In its background, on one side, there is a depiction of the poet's famous poem 'Jhansi Ki Rani' which holds an important place in Hindi literature. On the other hand, there is a glimpse of freedom fighters. Google in a statement called Chauhan a 'guiding writer and freedom fighter'

In a statement, Google described Chauhan as a "guiding writer and freedom fighter" who "rose to the national level in an era of male dominance in literature".
Subhadra Kumari Chauhan was born on this day in 1904 in Nihalpur village in Allahabad (now Prayagraj) of Uttar Pradesh.
Google wrote, "He is known for his constant writing and even writing while sitting on a thong on his way to school. His first poem was published only at the age of nine.
Her poems mainly focused on the difficulties faced by Indian women such as 'gender and caste discrimination.
Chouhan gave revolutionary speeches as a part of his contribution to the freedom struggle and a total of 88 poems and 46 short stories were published.
